Autodesk Map 3D 2006 Service Pack 1

In a continuing effort to provide high-quality products, Autodesk has released Autodesk Map 3D 2006 Service Pack 1, which includes fixes or addresses issues for Autodesk Map 3D 2006.

This Readme contains the latest information regarding the installation and use of this service pack. It is strongly recommended that you read this entire document before you apply the service pack to your product. For your reference, you should save this Readme to your hard drive or print a copy.

Who Should Install the Service Pack?

Service Pack 1 is for Autodesk Map 3D 2006, locked and unlocked, running on all supported operating systems and languages. There is a Service Pack for each language.

General Information

Before you apply this service pack, be sure to back up all custom CUI, MNR, and MNL files.

During the installation of this service pack, you will be prompted for the original installation CD or network image. Administrative permissions are required to install, uninstall and apply service packs.

Once this service pack is applied, you cannot run an automatic uninstall to remove the service pack. Uninstall the product and reinstall to undo the service pack changes.

The service pack may also be deployed by Administrators over the network using the Network Installation wizard.

Connecting Autodesk FDO Provider for ArcSDE to SQL Server and Oracle

Oracle and SQL Server System Requirements

The following files must be in your \Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\GIS\FDO\2.0\ArcSDE folder, or in another folder located in the command path:

• Updated ArcSDE dlls: sde91.dll, pe91.dll, sg91.dll.

The following system requirements apply to the ArcSDE Server when connecting the Autodesk FDO Provider for ArcSDE to Oracle:

• ArcSDE version 8.3
• Oracle Database 9i, or any version of Oracle supported by ArcSDE 8.3

The following system requirements apply to the ArcSDE Server when connecting the Autodesk FDO Provider for ArcSDE to SQL Server:

• ArcSDE version 9.1
• SQL Server 2000, or any version of SQL Server supported by ArcSDE 9.1

External Databases

• Classification property values are retained when linking to external databases.
• Selecting complex polygons while connecting to external databases function restored.
• ArcSDE connection to SQL server confirmed.
• Writing Arcs to datastore with SRID 82196 function restored.

Display Manager

• Editing Display Manager thematic values function restored.

Globalization

• Adjacent sheet name in MapBooks now displays correctly in Japanese.

Topology

• Buffer operations and performance restored.

Import/Export

• Performance restored when importing files with more than 200,000 entities.

Query

• Query functionality for Land Desktop 2006 (LDT 2006) points, contours and grading objects restored.

Oracle

• Block attributes with NULL values maintained after importing or exporting records from an Oracle database.

Performance

• Changing plotter or plot style performance restored.
• Invoking Customer User Interface (CUI) from command line or View menu only will improve performance.

Image

• Image Insert functionality has been improved.
• Inserting multiple image files functionality has been improved.
• Image transparency functionality has been restored.
• Image Memory functionality has been improved.

Civil 3D

• Importing a PENZ file with missing point numbers is no longer fatal.

Summary of Primary Issues Resolved for AutoCAD 2006 Service Pack 1

Actions That No Longer Cause Fatal Errors

• Adding a stretch action to a dynamic block definition in a drawing saved with certain linetypes.
• Displaying thumbnail views of DWF files in Windows Explorer.
• Opening some types of legacy drawings.
• Expanding the Toolbars node in the Customize User Interface dialog box (CUI) after you have migrated custom menus and toolbars from AutoCAD 2005 to AutoCAD 2006.
• (AutoCAD only) Editing a multiline using MLEDIT when AutoCAD 2005 and AutoCAD 2006 are installed on the same computer.
• Using the Properties palette to set mesh density for a smooth polygon mesh.
• Pressing CTRL+A to select objects in certain 3D views.
• Running AutoCAD LT on a computer with WindowBlinds software installed.
• Inserting unsupported image files.

General Updates

Other changes included in this service pack include the following updates.

ActiveX API (AutoCAD only)

• You can now program the deletion of a button from a toolbar.
• Problems that sometimes caused side-by-side incompatibility between AutoCAD 2006 and AutoCAD 2005 have been addressed.
• The AddSeparator method now correctly adds a separator to existing pull-down menus.

Calculator

• Number format for certain regional settings: QuickCalc calculator variables now persist from one session to another.
• The vertical scroll bar in the QuickCalc calculator window is now correctly displayed.

Color

• Display properties (such as color, linetype, and lineweight) no longer change unexpectedly when you drag or copy objects.

Data Extraction (AutoCAD only)

• Cells for tables created using EATTEXT are now displayed with the appropriate height.
• Inability to close the Attribute Extraction dialog box (EATTEXT) under some circumstances has been corrected.

Dimensioning

• Correct values are now displayed for each instance of a polar-arrayed dimension.
• Dimension associativity is now reliably retained when a drawing is saved. Display errors have also been corrected.

Dynamic Blocks

• Inserted dynamic blocks can now be rotated and scaled without losing their dynamic properties.
• The drop-down list of available values is now reliably displayed when you click a visability or lookup grip on a dynamic block reference in a drawing.

Dynamic Input

• Entering a transparent command (such as 'p) in a Dynamic Input tooltip no longer causes the program to lock up.
• When using Dynamic Input, you can now enter the command modifiers tk (for tracking) and tt (to set temporary tracking points for object snap tracking).

Hatching

• For legacy drawings, text within solid-filled hatch areas is now correctly displayed.

Key Modifiers

• For entries in an edit box in a docked window, the program now distinguishes between temporary override keys (such as SHIFT+E) and capitalized text.

Layers

• Saved layer states can now be reliably restored.

Migration

• The Customize User Interface dialog box now correctly imports full, partial, and custom menus from previous releases. (This update was released separately as Support Solution TS1052001.)
• Display problems resulting from the transfer of legacy MNU or MNS files to AutoCAD 2006-based products have been corrected. This update affects labels in image tile menus and screen menus. (This update was released separately as Support Solution TS1052254.)
• Screen menu aliases are now correctly migrated from earlier versions of the product.
• Right-click menus are now available when the CUI file is loaded as an enterprise customization file and a partial menu is loaded as the main customization file.
• Problems with opening CUI files that have duplicate macro IDs have been corrected.
• The object snap menu (SHIFT+right-click) is now available when partial menus are loaded.
• You now can delete a custom tool created in the Customize User Interface dialog box without causing an error the next time you try to edit the toolbar or tool palette to which it was added.

Modify

• Circles and arcs created on a plane that is not parallel to the world coordinate system (WCS) now move and stretch in the expected direction when they are stretched.
• You can now stretch objects in a group individually.
• You can now stretch multiple 3D polyline segments.

ObjectARX^® and ObjectDBX^TM (AutoCAD only)

• Performance problems as a result of using a carriage return (\r) with the ads_printf() function have been corrected.
• Double-byte languages: The accmGetColorFromACIName() function now behaves as expected when used with multiple-byte color names.

Object Linking and Embedding (OLE)

• OLE objects in model space viewports are now clipped correctly when the viewport is resized.
• The quality of OLE objects (such as photographs) printed at the highest quality setting has been improved.

Object Snaps

• Performance problems using object snaps in certain circumstances have been corrected.

Open

• You can now run a script to open another drawing after the first drawing has been closed.

Options

• Problems with relative search paths created in the Options dialog box have been corrected.

Plot and Publish

• Dot linetypes with line weight are now plotted correctly.
• Plot styles for systems with a large number of plot styles are now assigned properly.
• The time needed to open the Plot dialog box has improved for customers who have a large number of plot styles.
• The name of the layout is now correctly appended to the file name for drawings that are plotted or published to PDF.

Profiles (AutoCAD only)

• Profiles are now retained properly when more than one instance of AutoCAD is open.

Tables

• Formatting is now preserved for text cut from a Microsoft^® Excel spreadsheet and pasted into a table cell.

Text

• The spacing between lines of text created with consecutive executions of the TEXT command is now the same as the spacing between lines of text created within a single TEXT command.
• Pressing the END key in the Edit Text dialog box no longer causes an error.
• Bullets created in the In-Place Text Editor are now displayed correctly in the editor, no matter how many times it is reopened.
• Chinese language: CAPS LOCK and SHIFT keys now work properly on Chinese-language keyboards.
• Japanese language: Several problems with incorrect display of characters have been corrected.
• Double-byte languages: Problems with spacing between double-byte characters have been corrected.
• For some Asian input method editors: You now can switch from Asian text entry to English text entry without causing the program to lock up.
• Baltic, Turkish, and Greek languages: Problems with the display of SHX fonts have been corrected.

Tool Palette

• Using a tool palette no longer causes the incorrect command to run when you press ENTER or right-click to repeat a command.

Xrefs (External References)

• External references (xrefs) that have been unloaded are no longer reloaded when you click a balloon notification in the host drawing.

Windows Command Line Switches

The command line switches supported by this service pack are as follows:

• /e - Extracts the Autodesk Map MSP file from the service pack executable.
• /p - Extracts a patch list from the service pack executable.
• /q - Suppresses the completion message after the service pack is applied.
  This is useful if you use a script or batch file to apply the service pack to multiple computers.

Instructions about how to use the /e, and /p command line switches are included in the procedures that follow.

Installation Instructions

Apply This Service Pack to a Stand-Alone Installation

Follow these instructions to install a service pack on an individual computer.

To update a stand-alone installation

1. Download the service pack and save it to any folder.
2. Insert Autodesk Map 3D 2006 CD 1.
3. Find the folder where you saved the service pack and double-click the EXE file.

Apply this Service Pack through Your Local Network Using a Patch List

Use this procedure if you want to use Communication Center to apply this service pack through your local network.

To apply this service pack using local patch list

1. Insert Autodesk Map 3D 2006 CD 1 and follow the prompts.
2. From the Autodesk Product Support website, download EXE file and <Autodesk Map 3D 2006 Service Pack 1 Readme>.htm to a local server.

   NOTE: Make sure that all users who need to apply the service pack have access to this server.

3. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following information, and then click OK:

   \\<local server name>_<patch name> /p <patch list location name>\<patch list name>

   For example:

   myserver\patches\AutodeskMap3D2006sp1SWL.exe /p c:\patchlist.txt

   The contents of the patch list file are similar to the following:

4. Open the patch list file. If there is more than one patch list, the lists are separated by asterisks (*****).
5. Change the PatchFileLocation to one of the following:
   
   • If you want to make the service pack available from a file server, enter:
     PatchFileLocation=\\\\<your_server_name>\\<your_share_name>\\<subfolders> \\<patch_name>.exe
   • If you want to make the service pack available from an FTP server, enter:
     ftp://<your_server_name>/<your_share_name>/<your_path> /<patch_name>.exe
6. Change the PatchDescLocation to one of the following:
   
   • If you want to make the Readme available from a file server, enter:
     PatchDescLocation=\\\\<your_server_name>\\<your_share_name>\\<subfolders> \\<readme_name>.html
   • If you want to make the Readme available from an FTP server, enter:
     ftp:////<your_server_name>//<your_share_name>//<your_path> //<readme_name>.html
7. Save and close the patch list file.
8. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following:

   <your_CD-ROM drive:>\CDROM:\BIN\ACADFeui\Support\CADManagerControl

9. Double-click CMControl.exe.
10. In the CAD Manager utility, in the product list, select Autodesk Map 3D 2006, and then click OK.
11. In the CAD Manager utility, on the Communication Center tab, do the following:
    
    • In the Live Update Configuration list, select Enable Using Local Patch List.
    • In the Local Patch List Location box, enter the same local patch list location that you entered in step 2.
    • Click Apply to save these settings to your own system.
12. At the bottom of the CAD Manager utility, in the drop-down list, select Create .reg Registry File. Then click OK.
13. In the Save As dialog box, save the file to your system. Make note of this location.

The registry file is now ready to be made available to users.

Apply this Service Pack to Autodesk Map 3D 2006

The following two methods of distributing Autodesk Map 3D 2006 Service Pack 1 apply only to administrative images created with the Autodesk Map 3D 2006 Network Installation wizard. After you complete these procedures, any new deployments of Autodesk Map 3D 2006 will have the service pack applied to them automatically.

NOTE: In both of the following procedures, the patch (service pack) file that you download contains an MSP (Microsoft Patch) file. You must extract that file from the executable file. To extract the MSP file from the executable, use the /e ("extract") switch.

To add Autodesk Map 3D 2006 Service Pack 1 to a new Autodesk Map 3D 2006

1. From the Autodesk Product Support website, download the EXE to your local computer.
2. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run and enter <local drive:>\<patch name> /e <local drive:>\<patch name.msp> . Then click OK.
3. On the computer where you installed the Network Installation wizard, on the Start menu (Windows), click Autodesk > Network Installation Wizard.
4. In the Network Installation wizard, on the Welcome page, select Create An Administrative Image, and then click Next.
5. On the Create Administrative Image page, in the Select Autodesk Installer (MSI) File box, enter the path to acad.msi, the MSI file you use as the basis for your administrative image. This file is found on your product CD-ROM, in CDROM:\BIN\ACADFeui.
6. In the Administrative Image Location box, enter an existing shared network location where you want to create an administrative image, or click Browse to navigate to a location. Users install Autodesk Map from this location.
7. Select the Apply A Patch (Service Pack) To This Image option.
8. In the Select Patch box, enter the path to the patch location (the location you entered in step 2, including the extension .msp). You can also Browse to locate the MSP file.
9. Click Next, and follow the instructions in the Network Installation wizard to complete the deployment of this service pack.

To apply Autodesk Map 3D 2006 Service Pack 1 to an existing Autodesk Map 3D 2006

1. From the Autodesk Product Support website, download the EXE to your local computer.
2. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run and enter <local drive:>\<patch name> /e <local drive:>\<patch name.msp> . Then click OK.
3. On the computer where you installed the Network Installation wizard, on the Start menu (Windows), click Autodesk > Network Installation Wizard.
4. In the Network Installation wizard, on the Welcome page, select Modify An Administrative Image, and then click Next.
5. On the Modify Administrative Image page, in the Select An MSI File box, select an existing Autodesk installer file (MSI) from an existing shared network location that contains the administrative image you want to modify. Users install Autodesk Map 3D from this location.
6. Select the Apply A Patch (Service Pack) To This Image option.
7. In the Select Patch box, enter the path to the patch location (the location you entered in step 2, including the extension .msp). You can also Browse to locate the MSP file.
8. Click Next, and follow the instructions in the Network Installation wizard to complete the deployment of this service pack.
