This Readme contains the latest information regarding the installation and
use of this service pack. It is strongly recommended that you read this entire
document before you apply the service pack to your product. For your reference,
you should save this Readme to your hard drive or print a copy.

Who Should Install the Service Pack?
Service Pack 1 is for AutoCAD Map 3D 2008 running on all supported operating systems and languages.
Supported Operating Systems
This service pack can be used with the following operating systems:
- Microsoft® Windows® 2000 (SP4)
- Microsoft Windows XP Home and Professional Editions (SP2)
- Microsoft Windows Vista Business
- Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate
Information for Windows Vista Users
Do not apply this service pack while AutoCAD Map 3D, or any other application is running on your system. Manually close AutoCAD Map 3D, and all other
applications before you install this service pack.
General Updates
The following changes were made:
AutoCAD Map 3D 2008 |
SHP Files |
Import of SHP files created in other GIS applications has been improved. |
All of your parcel polygons will now be exported when you export SHP files. |
The Display Manager now displays all features on SHP layers. |
Plotting |
When plotting FDO raster layers, you can now expect an image resolution comparable to that displayed in AutoCAD Raster Design regardless of view scale. |
When plotting, you can now expect to see the same styles displayed in Plot Preview as you will see in the actual printed result. |
General Issues |
DWF files published in Map 3D 2008 will now be approximately the same size as those published in Map 3D 2007. |
DGN import has been improved. |
You can now successfully export a Map with joined data to a DWG file. |
The performance of SDF files has improved by 20%. |
You can now successfully select a feature when the view scale for a LAYER file is zoomed in all the way. |
You can now successfully use the Zoom feature to view raster layers in Layout View. |
AutoCAD Blocks |
The text style in AutoCAD blocks in SDF layers will now display at the orientation to which it is set. |
You can now successfully insert AutoCAD blocks with hatching in the Display Manager. |
Style Editor |
You can now successfully select a new theme after editing a fill style. |
You can now successfully create themes in SDF files with view scale information. |
Oracle Connections |
You can now export a DWG that is set to an arbitrary X-Y coordinate system without losing your Oracle connection. |
You can now successfully check out or update Oracle data that uses a foreign schema for a version-enabled table. |
API Users |
Calling the API function AcMapLayer.GetFeatureData(…) with valid entity IDs will now return an MgFeatureReader with valid Identity properties for each Feature. |
Calling the API function AcMapLayer.UpdateFeatures(…) with an MgInsertFeatures command now properly returns an MgFeatureProperty with a type of MgPropertyType.Feature, and with a value of an
MgFeatureReader containing the IDs of newly-created features. In addition, you must now use AcMapLayer.UpdateFeatures(…) instead of AcMapFeatureService.UpdateFeatures(…) for all editing
operations, including Insert, Update, Delete, Lock, and Unlock. |
AutoCAD Map 3D 2008 will now call the API function GetCurrentMap(…) in multiple open documents without quitting unexpectedly or becoming unstable. |

Problems Reported with the Customer Error Reporting Utility (AutoCAD Only)

Known Issues with This Service Pack (AutoCAD only)
Problem: After applying the Service Pack 1, all dashboard control panels are displayed regardless of the selected workspace.
Workaround: Make the desired workspace current.
Important Installation Information
Important: Please read the following before installing the service pack:
There is no option to uninstall this service pack. Instead, uninstall AutoCAD Map 3D 2008 and reinstall it without adding the service pack.
Back up all custom CUI, MNR, and MNL files before applying this service pack.

Administrative Privileges
During installation, you may be prompted for the original installation disc or network image. To apply the service pack, you must have
administrative permissions to install and uninstall products.
Administrators can deploy the service pack over a network using the Deployment wizard.
About Windows Command Line Switches
Two Microsoft® Windows® command line switches are built into this service pack:
- /e – Extracts the MSP file from the service pack executable.
- /q – Suppresses the completion message after the service pack is applied.
This information can be useful if you plan to use a script or batch file to apply the service pack to
multiple computers.
Instructions about how to use the /e command line switch are included in the following procedures.
Installation Instructions
Apply This Service Pack to a Stand-Alone Installation
Follow these instructions to install a service pack on an individual computer:
- Download the service pack and save it to a folder of your choice.
- Insert CD1 of the AutoCAD Map 3D 2008 installation.
- Locate the folder in which you saved the service pack.
- Double-click the service pack executable (EXE) file.
Apply This Service Pack Through a Local Network
You can use Communication Center to apply this service pack through your local network. Detailed instructions for installing service packs through your
local network are listed in the Communication Center tab of the CAD Manager Control Utility help.
NOTE: The CAD Manager Control Utility can be installed from the product installation disc by selecting Network Deployment,
and then selecting the Autodesk CAD Manager Tools 4.0 link in the Media Browser.
Apply This Service Pack to a Network Administrative Image
The following distribution methods apply only to administrative images created with the Deployment wizard. After you complete these procedures, any
subsequent deployments of AutoCAD Map 3D will include the service pack updates.
The service pack file that you download contains an MSP (Microsoft Patch) file, which you extract from the executable file using the /e (extract)
switch. An example of the syntax appears in step 3 in the instructions that follow.
To apply the service pack to a new administrative image:
IMPORTANT: In the Deployment wizard, when you see the note under the heading: “Apply This Service Pack to
a Network Administrative Image” it is important to select MERGE. The Append option does not apply
to this service pack.
- From the Autodesk Product Support website, download the service pack EXE file to your local computer.
- From the Windows desktop, click Start > Run.
- Use the following syntax to specify the path of the executable file.
<local_drive:>\<patch_name>\ /e <local_drive:>\< patch_name>.msp
Note: You will receive a message to use the Merge option for the patch.
- Select OK.
- Insert CD1 of the AutoCAD Map 3D 2008 installation.
- Launch setup.exe.
- Select Create Deployments.
- Click Next. The Begin Deployment page is displayed.
- In Specify the Deployment Location, either browse to, or enter the path to the network on which you want to create an administrative image.
This is the location from which users will install the product.
- In Specify a Deployment Name, enter a name for your deployment.
- Continue through the Deployment Wizard, optionally selecting the appropriate configurations.
- On the Include Service Packs Page, browse to the service pack that you extracted earlier.
It has been added to the Service Packs Included in this Deployment field.
IMPORTANT: In the Deployment wizard, when you see the note under the heading: “Apply This Service Pack to
a Network Administrative Image” it is important to select MERGE. The Append option does not apply
to this service pack.
- Click Configuration Complete.
- Follow the instructions in the Deployment wizard to finish deploying the service pack.
To apply the service pack to an existing administrative image:
- From the Autodesk Product Support website, download the service pack EXE file to your local computer.
- From the Windows desktop, click Start > Run.
- Use the following syntax to specify the path of the executable file.
<local_drive:>\<patch_name>\ /e <local_drive:>\< patch_name>.msp
- Click OK.
- Browse to the location of the existing Administrative image.
- Select Modify Deployment Name. The Begin Deployment page is displayed.
- Optionally, change the name of the existing deployment in Specify the Deployment Name.
- Continue through the Deployment Wizard, optionally selecting the appropriate configurations.
- On the Include Service Packs page, browse to the service pack you extracted earlier. It has been added to the Service Packs
Included in this Deployment field.
- Click Configuration Complete.
- Follow the instructions in the Deployment wizard to finish deploying the service pack.
