This Readme contains the latest information regarding the installation and use of this service pack. It is strongly recommended that you read this entire document before you apply the service pack to your product. For your reference, you should save this Readme to your hard drive or print a copy.

Who Should Install the Service Pack?

Service Pack 1 is for the following Autodesk products running on all supported operating systems and languages. Be sure to install the correct service pack for your software.

General Installation Information

Before You Begin

As you prepare to install the service pack, keep these points in mind:

Back up all custom CUI, MNR, and MNL files before applying this service pack.

During installation, you will be prompted for the original installation media or network image. You must have administrative permissions to install and uninstall products in order to successfully apply service packs.

Administrators can deploy the service pack over a network using the Deployment wizard.

Installation Instructions

Apply This Service Pack to a Stand-Alone Installation

Follow these instructions to install a service pack on an individual computer.

To update a stand-alone installation

  1. Download the service pack and save it to any folder.
  2. Insert the product media (for example, AutoCAD).
  3. Find the folder where you saved the service pack and double-click the executable (EXE) file.

Apply This Service Pack Through a Local Network

You can use Communication Center to apply this service pack through your local network. Detailed instructions on how to set up patching through your local network are listed in the Communication Center tab of the CAD Manager Control Utility help.

NOTE: The CAD Manager Control Utility can be installed from the product installation media by selecting "Install Tools and Utilities" and then selecting the Autodesk CAD Manager Tools 4.0.

Apply This Service Pack to a Network Administrative Image

The following distribution methods apply only to administrative images created with the Deployment wizard. After you complete these procedures, any subsequent deployments of the product will include the service pack updates.

In all cases, please "Append" the service pack to a deployment. The only time it is appropriate to "Merge" a service pack is if you intend to distribute the deployment through a group policy object.

The patch (service pack) file that you download contains an MSP (Microsoft Patch) file, which you extract from the executable file using the /e (extract) switch. For an example of the syntax, see step 2, below.

To add the service pack to a new administrative image

  1. From the Autodesk Product Support website, download the service pack EXE file to your local computer.
  2. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter information using the following syntax and click OK.

    <local_drive:>\<patch_name>\ /e <local_drive:>\< patch_name>.msp

  3. Insert the Autodesk media and launch setup.exe.
  4. Select "Create Deployments," then click Next.
  5. On the "Begin Deployment" page, in the "Specify the Deployment Location" box, enter the shared network location where you would like to create an administrative image, or click "Browse" to find a location. Users install the product from this location.
  6. In the "Specify a Deployment Name" box, enter the name for your deployment.
  7. Continue through the Deployment Wizard, and Configure when allowed. On the "Include Service Packs Page," click "..." to browse to the service pack extracted in Step 2. Notice that the service pack has been added in the "Service Packs Included in this Deployment" box. Click Configuration Complete.
  8. Follow the instructions in the Deployment wizard to complete the service pack deployment.

To apply the service pack to an existing administrative image

  1. From the Autodesk Product Support website, download the service pack EXE file to your local computer.
  2. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following information and click OK.

    <local_drive:>\<patch_name>\ /e <local_drive:>\< patch_name>.msp

  3. Browse to the location of the existing Administrative image.
  4. Select Modify Deployment Name.
  5. On the "Begin Deployment" page, you may change the name of the existing deployment in the "Specify the Deployment Name" box.
  6. Continue through the Deployment Wizard, and Configure when allowed. On the "Include Service Packs" page, click "..." to browse to the service pack extracted in Step 2. Notice that the service pack has been added in the "Service Packs Included in this Deployment" box. Click Configuration Complete.
  7. Follow the instructions in the Deployment wizard to complete the service pack deployment.

To Uninstall This Service Pack

NOTE: Service Pack cannot be uninstalled when the product is deployed with a merged Service Pack.

Windows 2000 and XP

  1. On the Start menu, click Settings > Control Panel.
  2. Double-click "Add or Remove Programs".
  3. In Windows XP, select the Show Updates option.
  4. Find the appropriate service pack in the list of programs and click Remove.

Vista

  1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs.
  3. Click Programs and Features.
  4. In the Programs and Features window, in the left pane, click View Installed Updates.
  5. Find the appropriate service pack in the list of updates and click Uninstall.
