To apply this service pack through Communication Center using local patch list functionality

1. From the Autodesk Product Support website, download <LDT2008_SP1_Locked.exe> and <AutoCAD Land Desktop 2008 Service Pack 1 Readme.htm> to a local server.

   NOTE: Make sure that all users who need to apply the service pack have access to this server.

2. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following information, and then click OK:

   <local server name>\<patch name> /p <patch list location name>\<patch list name>

   For example:

   c:\LDT2008_SP1_Locked.exe /p c:\patchlist.txt

   The contents of the patch list file are similar to the following:

   PatchDesc=This Service Pack updates Land Desktop 2008. The use of this software is subject to the terms and conditions contained in the software license agreement that accompanied Land Desktop 2008. YOUR USE OF THE SOFTWARE INDICATES YOUR ASSENT TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SUCH LICENSE AGREEMENT. COPYING OR USE OF THIS SOFTWARE OR ITS DOCUMENTATION EXCEPT AS PERMITTED BY THE SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT IS UNAUTHORIZED AND IS COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT UNDER THE LAWS OF YOUR COUNTRY.    NOTE: If a patch list file already exists in this location, the new patch list information is added to the end of that file. The original file is not overwritten.

3. Open the patch list file. If there is more than one patch list, the lists are separated by asterisks (*****).
4. Change the fifth line in step 3, PatchFileLocation, to one of the following:
   • If you want to make the service pack available from a file server, enter:
     PatchFileLocation=\\\\<your_server_name>\\<your_share_name>\\<subfolders> \\<patch_name>.exe

   • If you want to make the service pack available from an FTP server, enter:
     ftp://<your_server_name>/<your_share_name>/<your_path> /<patch_name>.exe

5. Change the last line in step 3, PatchDescLocation, to one of the following:
   • If you want to make the Readme available from a file server, enter:
     PatchDescLocation=\\\\<your_server_name>\\<your_share_name>\\<subfolders> \\<readme_name>.htm

   • If you want to make the Readme available from an FTP server, enter:
     ftp:////<your_server_name>//<your_share_name>//<your_path> //<readme_name>.htm

6. Save and close the patch list file.
7. Insert the AutoCAD Land Desktop 2008 media into your local computer's media drive.
8. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following:

   <your_CD-ROM drive>:\BIN\Installer\Support\CADManagerControl

9. Double-click CMControl.exe.
10. In the CAD Manager utility, in the product list, select AutoCAD Land Desktop 2008, and then click OK.
11. In the CAD Manager utility, on the Communication Center tab, do the following:
    • In the Live Update Configuration list, select Enable Using Local Patch List.
    • In the Local Patch List Location box, enter the patch list file location (the UNC network path).
    • Click Apply to save these settings to your own system.

12. At the bottom of the CAD Manager utility, in the drop-down list, select Create .reg Registry File. Then click OK.
13. In the Save As dialog box, save the file to your system. Make note of this location.
14. The registry file must be run at each workstation so the service pack can be applied. Distribute the registry file to each user (workstation). Each user should save the file locally and double-click the file from Windows Explorer to run it.
15. At each workstation, the service pack must then be applied using the Communication Center.

NOTE: Once the registry changes have been applied to the client, the Communication Center in AutoCAD Land Desktop 2008 will alert the users with a "Maintenance Update Available" notice. When the user clicks on the notice, a page will be displayed that says "Autodesk Live Update." This page contains instructions, a description of the patch, and an "Update" button that will start the patch download and install.

The following two methods of distributing AutoCAD Land Desktop 2008 Service Pack 1 apply only to administrative images created with the AutoCAD Land Desktop 2008 Network Installation wizard. After you complete these procedures, any new deployments of AutoCAD Land Desktop 2008 will have the service pack applied to them automatically.

NOTE: In both of the following procedures, the service pack file that you download contains an MSP (Microsoft Patch) file. You must extract that file from the executable file. To extract the MSP file from the executable, use the /e ("extract") switch.

To add AutoCAD Land Desktop 2008 Service Pack 1 to a new AutoCAD Land Desktop 2008 administrative image

1. From the Autodesk Product Support website, download <LDT2008_SP1_Locked.exe> to your local computer.
2. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following information, and then click OK.

   <local drive>:\<patch name>\ /e <local drive>:\<patch name.msp>

3. From the installation media, select Create Deployment.
4. Select the location of your deployment and provide a name, then click Next.
5. Select the products you would like to install, then click Next.
6. On the Configure page, select the Configure button to customize the deployment.
7. Continue with the customizations of the deployment. On the Include Service Packs page, use the ellipses button to browse to the location of the MSP file that was downloaded and extracted from the executable file.
8. Select the merge installation of the service pack option. Merging the installation installs both during the product installation.
   NOTE: Do not select the option to append the administrative image because this method will not include the service pack in the installation.
   
   
9. Complete the customizations and select Configuration Complete, then select Create Deployment.
