Notice to AutoCAD Mechanical Customers
In a continuing effort to provide high quality products, Autodesk has
released AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 Service Pack 3, which fixes or addresses a
variety of issues pertaining to AutoCAD Mechanical 2009.
This README file highlights what has been fixed or addressed, where to
download the update, and how to install it.

Prerequisites
- You must have administrative privileges to be able to install AutoCAD
Mechanical 2009 Service Pack 3 on the following supported operating systems.

Before you begin to install, ensure that ...
- You have created a backup of all custom CUI, MNR, and MNL files
- You have administrative privileges on the computer.
You must have
administrative permissions to install, uninstall, or apply service packs. Only
administrators can deploy the service pack over the network using a Network
Deployment.
- The original installation disc or network image is readily
accessible.
During installation, you may be prompted for the original
installation disc or network image.
- You are using a 64-bit version of Windows, if you are creating a 64-bit
deployment of the patch.
A 64-bit .msp file can only be extracted on a
64-bit version of Windows.
Standalone installation
NOTE: If you are using Windows Vista, do not select the Automatically
close applications and attempt to restart them after setup is complete option. Instead, we recommend that you manually close AutoCAD
Mechanical 2009 before you install this update.
- Download acm2009_swl_sp3_x86.exe for the 32-bit version
or acm2009_swl_sp3_x64.exe for the 64-bit version of AutoCAD
Mechanical 2009 Service Pack 3 installer. This patch can also
be installed on all flavors of AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 in :
- Autodesk Inventor Suite 2009
- Autodesk Inventor Professional 2009
- Autodesk Inventor Routed Systems Suite 2009
- Autodesk Inventor Simulation Suite 2009
- Autodesk Inventor Tooling Suite 2009
- Double click the installer to run it.
- Once AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 Service Pack 3 installation is complete, a
message informing you that the update has been successfully applied is
displayed.
Network deployment
It is not possible to create a new deployment tree based off an
existing one. If you wish to keep a copy of your original Deployment tree, copy
the original to another location prior to making changes.
To add the service pack
to a new administrative image
- Insert the product install disc and launch Setup .exe.
- Select Create Deployments.
- Continue through the deployment wizard until you come to the Configuration page.
- In the Configuration of AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 page,
select Network license and specify your license server
location.
- Click Next until you come to the Include Service
Packs page.
- Click on the Updates are available button. If this button
is not enabled please follow the steps in Note.
- In the Manage Patch Folder dialog box,
- Click Action type
- Select <Add to patch folder>
- Click the Update Patch Folder button.
The patch
will be downloaded to <your deployment
location>\AdminImage\ServicePacks folder.
Once the download is
completed, you will receive a message stating that your local patch folder has
been updated.
- Click Close on the Manage Patch Folder dialog.
- Back in the Include Service Packs page, click the Browse button to locate your patch file (step 7).
- Verify that the service pack has been added to the Service packs
included in this deployment box.
- Continue through the configuration or click Configuration
Complete.
- Click Create Deployment to start your deployment
creation.
To apply the service pack to an
existing administrative image
- Browse to the location containing the existing
administrative image.
- In the Tools folder, double-click the <Create & modify a
deployment> shortcut to launch the
deployment wizard.
- Click the <Modify an existing
deployment> option.
- Continue through the deployment wizard until you
come to the Configuration page.
- In the Configuration of AutoCAD Mechanical 2009, click Next until you come to the Include Service Packs page.
- Click on the Updates are available button. If this button
is not enabled please follow the steps in Note.
- In the Manage Patch Folder dialog box,
- Click Action type
- Select <Add to patch folder>
- Click the Update Patch Folder button.
The patch
will be downloaded to <your deployment
location>\AdminImage\ServicePacks folder.
Once the download is
completed, you will receive a message stating that your local patch folder has
been updated.
- Click Close on the Manage Patch Folder dialog.
- Back in the Include Service Packs page, click the Browse button to locate your patch file (step 7).
- Verify that the service pack has been added to the Service packs
included in this deployment box.
- Continue through the configuration or click Configuration
Complete.
- Click Create Deployment to modify your existing deployment.
Note:
If the Updates are Available button is not enabled, follow
the procedure outlined below to manually download the patch and create the
deployment.
- Download the service pack .exe file
from Autodesk Product Support website.
- Extract the .msp file from the service
pack .exe file :
- On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter information using the following syntax and click OK.
<local_drive:>\<patch_name> /e
<local_drive:>\< patch_name> .msp
- Click Browse to locate the .msp file you extracted in step
2.
- Verify that the service pack has been added to the Service packs
included in this deployment box.
- Continue through the configuration or click Configuration
Complete.
- Click Create Deployment to start your deployment
creation.
After you install the Service Pack
- To verify if the Service Pack is properly installed,
- Start AutoCAD Mechanical 2009
- At the command prompt, enter AMVER.
A text window is displayed and
should report "AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 SP3" for the 32-bit version or
"AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 x64 SP3" for the 64-bit version.
- We recommend that you restart Microsoft Windows after you install the
Service Pack.

Uninstalling this Service Pack
NOTE: This service pack cannot be uninstalled if it has been
installed via a network deployment, with a merged update.
Windows XP
- On the Start menu, click Settings > Control
Panel.
- Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
- In Windows XP, select the Show Updates option.
- Locate the appropriate service pack in the list of updates and click Remove.
Windows Vista
- On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
- Click Programs.
- Click Programs and Features.
- In the Programs and Features window, in the left pane, click View
Installed Updates.
- Locate the appropriate service pack in the list of updates and click Uninstall.

Issues addressed by AutoCAD
Mechanical 2009 Service Pack 3
This service pack includes AutoCAD 2009 Update 3. For information on the
issues addressed by AutoCAD 2009 Update 3, please refer to the Readme at http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9240618.
Fatal Errors Fixed:
- Fatal error when publishing a dataset that contains DGN files.
- Fatal error when browsing and clicking dxf files during INSERT operation.
- Fatal error when opening certain drawing files in AutoCAD Mechanical.
Inventor link:
- Fatal error when creating an Inventor link file in Windows Vista x64 with standard user login.
- Fatal error when creating an Inventor link file in Windows Vista x64 with User Account Control (UAC) turned on.
Bill of Materials, Parts List & Balloons:
- Fatal error when browsing dwg files from Parts list style dropdown list in the Parts List dialog box.
- Absence of a Task dialog box when an incorrect formula is entered in the formula bar of the BOM dialog box.
- Failure of Parts List/Title Block to scale with the drawing border when there is another drawing opened in the background.
- Failure of auto ballooning in a viewport in Layout.
- Failure of Parts filters when part references are within viewport in Layout.
- Failure of Next option in objects selection during ballooning when part references are overlapped.
- Warning task dialog for duplicate Parts List filters are different in non-English language products.
Symbols & Dimension:
- Fatal error when making modification to the Fits representation files in Val folder in Windows Visa.
- Loss of chamfer dimension when editing chamfer dimension and clicking cancel without any change.
- Inability to save override dimension style in the template file other than ANSI standard style.
- Overlapping of text for some welding symbols if the "Flip symbol" option is checked.
- Sluggish response when hovering the mouse over some weld symbols.
Mechanical Structure:
- Fatal error after clicking on a newly inserted component from certain external drawings.
- Fatal error after few attempts to change the order of hide levels.
- Fatal error in some situations when using AMSREPLACEDEF command.
- Fatal error in Structure Catalog after opening a drawing that is xref attached in another current session.
- Fatal error during objects selection when attempting to create new folder by using Folder/Annotation view option for parent.
- Fatal error in Repath of external drawing files that are of different content.
- Failure to automatically update structure definitions in Structure Catalog after switching windows, Localize, and Break Link operations.
- Failure to automatically update status of external reference in Structure Catalog after last instance is deleted and external reference is not detached.
Other issues fixed:
- Minute change in angular position of non-orthogonal lines after fillet operation.
- Saving a file to AutoCAD 2004 drawing format causes its Standard to be missing and the standard elements in Options AM:Standards will become empty.
- Inability to use the character "&" in the name of a new layer or layergroup.
- Title block scale reverts back to 1'0"=1'0" after poweredit even when the scale is initially set to 1:1.
- Attribute values in title block does not justify to center.
- Linetype in screw connection is not correct in some drawings that contain user-created layers.
- AMSYMSTD command is not working.
- Failure to follow ByLayer color when objects of layergroup is pasted.
- In some drawings from previous releases, poweredit of title block shows a different scale from the original drawing.
- In some drawings, viewport of scale area is placed on wrong layer in Layout.

Miscellaneous Notes
AutoCAD Mechanical 2009, AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 Service Pack 1, AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 Service Pack 2, and AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 Service Pack 3 use the
same file format. All drawing files created in any of these versions are
interchangeable
