Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Service Pack 2
In a continuing effort to provide
high quality products, Autodesk has released the Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Service
Pack 2. Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Service Pack 2 contains all the updates that were
included in Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Service Pack 1A, therefore it is not necessary
to install Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Service Pack 1A.
Service Pack 2 also
contains all the fixes included in the Autodesk Map 2007 Service Packs 1 and 2.
Important: This Service Pack is intended for all versions of Autodesk®
Civil 3D® 2007 including those that already have Service Pack 1A installed.
This Service Pack is for English-language and non-English-language operating

3D® 2007 Extension for Google Earth , you must
uninstall it before running Civil 3D with Service Pack 2. A new version of the
Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Extension for Google Earth will be released supporting
Civil 3D 2007 Service Pack 2.
This Readme contains information regarding the installation
and use of this Service Pack. It is strongly recommended that you read this entire
document before you apply the Service Pack to your product. For your reference,
you should save this Readme to your hard drive or print a copy.

Known Issues in Autodesk Civil 3D 2007
- In the previous version of this readme there was a known issue documented
regarding the Part Lists in Autodesk Civil 3D drawing templates. This issue
has been resolved.
There is a known issue when Asian characters are used in the install path
for Autodesk Civil 3D. An error message is displayed when trying to create
subassemblies or pipe rules. If you encounter this issue, uninstall Autodesk
Civil 3D and reinstall using non-Asian characters in the install path.

- There is a known issue when Asian characters are used anywhere in the
path of a subassembly, including the filename. Therefore Asian characters
should not be used.
There is a known issue with rules not being applied correctly when attempting
to create a network using a localized (non-English) version of Civil 3D
and the supplied (English) NCS (National CAD Standards) templates. You must
delete existing rules when using a localized version of Civil 3D if the
rules were created in another language. For example, when you create a drawing
using a localized (non-English) version of Civil 3D and the supplied English
templates, you must delete the existing English rules in order to add a
localized equivalent. This is not only an issue when using the supplied
(English) NCS templates but also occurs when templates are designed in one
language version and then a drawing is opened in a different language version.
NOTE: The default pipe rule set should have two rules: Cover and Slope
and Pipe Length. The default structure rule set should have two rules:
Maximum Pipe Size Check and Pipe Drop Across Structure.
There is a known issue with Label Style expression names where property
field names are not translated when drawings are exchanged between languages.
To resolve this issue you need to delete the expression that is causing
the problem or edit the expression and replace the existing property field
names with local language names.
- Attempting to paste a dynamic corridor surface into a terrain surface
that the corridor was based on will cause Autodesk Civil 3D to become unresponsive
(or unexpectedly fail).
As a work-around, make a copy of the terrain surface and then paste the
corridor surface into that copy. Or, create a detached (non-dynamic) corridor
surface to paste into the original terrain surface.
There is a known issue that causes the program to close unexpectedly when
you have a survey database open and you attempt to log out of Vault. As
a work-around be sure to close the survey database before logging out of
There is a known issue with offset survey figures where the Update Figures
command may cause offset curved figures to have incorrect geometry. As a
work-around, prior to using the Update Figures command, export the figures
using the Export Survey LandXML command from the Survey database item (right-click
to access the command from the shortcut menu). Export only the figures.
After you use the Update Figures command, use the Import Survey LandXML
command from the same shortcut menu to replace the incorrect figures.
There is a known issue with adding the Civil 3D as AutoCAD 2007 shortcut
in network deployments.
Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 includes the option to launch a version of AutoCAD
2007 in which Civil 3D objects are enabled, but Civil 3D commands are not
available. Automatically adding a desktop shortcut icon to launch this application
is available when you install Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 as a stand-alone (single-user)
installation. However, the Autodesk Deployment Wizard does not support adding
the "Civil 3D as AutoCAD 2007" desktop shortcut automatically.
Therefore, when deploying Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 in a network environment,
individual users who want this shortcut added to their desktops must create
this shortcut manually by doing the following:
- Click the Start button and then select Programs > Autodesk >
Autodesk Civil 3D 2007.
- Right-click Civil 3D as AutoCAD 2007 and then select Copy.
- Paste this shortcut to the desktop.
Issues Resolved in
Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Service Pack 2
This Service Pack resolves
the following issues:
When closing the program, you no longer receive an error message after using
the Object Property Manager.
Using the UNDO command after deleting or inserting an elevation point no
longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
- Version 2006 drawings that contain a Spiral Curve Spiral with
the curve radius set to zero can now be migrated to version 2007 and the Spiral
Curve Spiral is correctly displayed.
- An issue with alignment station
equations has been resolved and the station equation labels now display expected
Using the DaylightStandard subassembly, you can create a corridor model with a
horizontal slope limit and the material thickness will be applied to the horizontal
links. Previously the material thickness was not applied to the horizontal links.
Changing a style of an exported corridor surface no longer

Frequency To Apply Assemblies dialog box) the sections are now added.

in parcel tables when you insert a new line.
Issues with parcel labels not erasing correctly have been resolved. The program
no longer closes unexpectedly when using the erase command on multiple parcel
labels. Labels are not redisplayed after using the erase command and then saving

Vault now supports the use of duplicate names across object types. Previously
if duplicate names existed, objects having a duplicate name would not be
checked into the project.
The program no longer closes unexpectedly if you check an object into the
Vault after creating a reference with labels on the master object.
The program no longer closes unexpectedly when you close a drawing
while the item previews are displayed in Prospector.
Zoom To command zooms to the correct location after setting the UCS.
no longer creates segments of zero length on closed contours. Previously the program
would close unexpectedly when opening a drawing in which this occurred.
The Smooth Contours command no longer causes gaps
in the contour display.
- Issues with surface styles
have been resolved. The program no longer closes unexpectedly when a surface is
created that does not have an assigned style.

The MCS survey figure command now starts the multipoint curve at the first point
number following the command and ends correctly when other curve commands are

This Service Pack also includes
resolution for the following AutoCAD issue:
- An issue
with slow performance has been improved when you open drawings that contain large
numbers of blocks.
Autodesk Civil 3D
2007 Service Pack 2 includes all the fixes that were included in Autodesk Civil
3D 2007 Service Pack 1A. Service Pack 1A resolved the following issues:
- Memory usage has been improved when performing
the following functions: labeling, masking of pipe objects, regenerating drawings,
- Using the Alignment Grid View on multiple
drawings no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Label text masking now plots as expected when using named plot styles.
The text height on an xref label now scales as expected in a paper
- An issue with zooming to a surface or to
an assembly has been resolved.
- When you open a drawing
that has been migrated from Autodesk Civil 3D 2006 to Autodesk Civil 3D 2007,
the Display tab of the Profile Style dialog box now displays the 3D Chain component
type in the Component Display list.
- An issue with drawings
not showing existing ground profiles due to alignments containing problematic
geometry has been resolved.
- An issue with running
Audit has been resolved. Audit no longer removes the points and all of the styles
from the drawing when it encounters an issue with an individual style.
- Clicking on a parcel area label now responds as expected.
Tangents displayed in a horizontal geometry profile band are now
correctly represented (displayed and annotated) as tangents instead of curves.
When two or more station equations are added to an alignment, the
profile view data band now reflects accurate station values.
An issue with invalid parcel creation when deleting alignment segments has been
values for the following subassemblies now migrate correctly: LinkOffsetAndSlope,
LinkSlopeAndVerticalDeflection, LinkSlopeToElevation, LinkSlopeToSurface, LinkWidthAndSlope.
When creating cul-de-sacs that are modeled
with the corridor object, the offset from the arc now computes correctly when
the offset point is located at exact center of the arc.
Accessing the Subassembly Properties dialog box no longer causes the program to

added has been resolved. The problem occurred if you later added more Parcel labels
to that site. This issue caused the program to terminate unexpectedly when you
tried to save the drawing, or when you tried to reopen the drawing if it saved
An issue with pipes in a Profile View when
connected structures are displayed as a solid has been resolved. Note that in
the Structure Style dialog box, the "Enable part masking" check box
is now hidden when the structure is being displayed as a solid. It is recommended
that you use the “Display as boundary” option in the Profile tab of the Structure
Style dialog box. The performance of this option is significantly faster than
when the “Display as solid” option is used.
- An issue
with structures displaying as blocks in Profile Views has been resolved. Masking
now works as expected.
- An issue with
drawings containing pipe networks that are parallel to sample lines has been resolved.
Drawings containing pipe networks that are parallel to sample lines no longer
- An issue with pipe network references
creating dependent object data (such as alignments and profiles) has been resolved.
Now when you create a pipe network reference, dependent objects do not get created.
Calculating volumes when
more than one material is a structure type now works correctly.

Object command, now export and reimport correctly.
Traverse Analysis command now finds the closing side under the following circumstances:
A closed loop traverse is run where the starting station's coordinates are known
and a reference direction and observations to the final station are taken. The
traverse proceeds to the last station where closing observations are taken to
the first station. For a four-sided traverse, the definition is as follows:
Initial station = 1
Initial backsight = 4
Stations = 2-4
foresight = 1
in the Survey Points collection now accurately represent the current state of
items in the Control Points collection.
The Survey tab now opens as expected in Toolspace when you use a survey command.
Issues with zooming
or panning to an object from the Prospector or Survey tab when a UCS is in use
in the drawing have been resolved.
Create Figure From Object/Update Figure from Drawing command now assigns the proper
Civil 3D 2007 Service Pack 2 also includes the fixes that were included in Autodesk
Map 3D 2007 Service Packs 1 and 2.
Autodesk Map Service Packs 1 and 2 include
more than 35 fixes with significant improvements in the following key areas:
- Stability issues reported with the Customer Error Reporting (CER) utility.
- Multiple publishing and plotting fixes including DWF
publishing and Publishing to MapGuide.
- ESRI SHP file editing via Feature
Data Objects (FDO).
- Improved performance for Oracle data stores accessed
Filtering Query Data from the Data Connect Dialog Box (New

- Theme rules are maintained
when using data containing characters from some Asian languages as well as accented
characters from European languages.
- Numerous issues that significantly improve the overall performance of Autodesk
Map 3D 2007 have been addressed in this service pack.
Who Should Install This Service
This Service Pack, C3D2007_SP2.exe, is
for all versions of Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 running on English-language and non-English-language
operating systems. Please note the following before installing this Service Pack:
You can install this Service Pack on systems that
have already had the Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Service Pack 1 (C3D2007_SP1.exe) or
is not necessary to install Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Service Packs (C3D2007_SP1.exe)
or (C3D2007_SP1A.exe).before installing this Service Pack (C3D2007_SP2.exe).
You cannot run an automatic
uninstall to remove this Service Pack.
Important: You cannot
run an automatic uninstall to remove this service pack. To restore your version
of Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 to its pre-service pack state, uninstall Autodesk Civil
3D 2007 and reinstall it.
Command Line Switches
The Windows command line switches built into
this service pack are as follows:
- /e - Extracts the MSP file from
the service pack executable.
- /p - Extracts a patch list from the service pack
- /q - Suppresses the completion message after the service
pack is applied. This is useful if you use a script or batch file to apply the
service pack to multiple computers.
Instructions about how to use
these command line switches are included in the procedures that follow.
Applying this Service Pack to a Stand-alone Installation
- Download C3D2007_SP2.exe and save it to any folder.
- Insert your
Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 media into your media drive.
- Navigate to the folder
where you saved the service pack.
- Double-click the executable file for the
service pack to install it.
After you install this Service Pack, the
Survey menu is removed from the Autodesk Civil 3D menu bar. To get the Survey
menu to display on the menu bar, enter wscurrent at the command line, and
then enter Civil 3D at the Enter new value for WSCURRENT command

through your local network.
To apply this service pack through
Communication Center using local patch list functionality
a local patch list, follow the steps below.
Before performing this procedure, make sure that the following
requirements have been met on the machine that is used to do the local patch list
- Civil 3D 2007 must be installed
- The current update
must not be applied to Civil 3D 2007
- The CAD Manager Control Utility 4.0
must be installed
Launch the CAD Manager Control
For Product, choose Autodesk Civil 3D 2007.
On the Communication Center tab, choose "Receive Live Updates
from local network" from the look up list.
Browse to the shared folder that you will download the updates (this service pack)
to using UNC path. The patchlist.npl file will be created automatically.
Select the Manage Patches button. (This will only work if the current
update\service pack has not yet been applied to Civil 3D 2007).
Set the action type to Add to patch folder by using the action type
icon and selecting the popup menu choice.
the Update patch folder. This will download the update\service pack from the Autodesk
server, and make it available for other users to access from the defined location.
- At the bottom of the CAD Manager
utility, in the drop-down list, select "Create .reg registry file".
Then click OK.
- In the Save As dialog box, save the file to your system.
Make note of this location.
- The registry file is now ready to be made
available to users.
- Install Updates from the Communication Center in
Civil 3D 2007.
Once the registry changes have been applied to the client, the Communication Center
in Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 will alert the users with a "Maintenance Update
Available" notice. When the user clicks on the notice, a page will be displayed
that says "Autodesk Live Update." This page contains instructions, a
description of the patch, and an "Update" button that will start the
patch download and install.

The following two methods of distributing Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Service Pack
2 apply only to administrative images created with the Autodesk Civil 3D 2007
Deployment wizard. After you complete these procedures, any new deployments of
Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 will have the service pack applied to them automatically.
NOTE: In both of the following procedures, the service pack
file that you download contains an MSP (Microsoft Patch) file. You must extract
that file from the executable file. To extract the MSP file from the executable,
use the /e ("extract") switch.
To add Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Service
Pack 2 to a new Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 administrative image
- From the Autodesk Product Support website, download <Autodesk Civil
3D 2007 Service Pack 2.exe> to your local computer.
- On the Start menu
(Windows), click Run. Enter the following information, and then click OK.

- On the computer where you installed the Deployment wizard
patch, on the Start menu (Windows), click Programs > Autodesk > Deployment
- In the Deployment wizard, on the Welcome page, select Create an Administrative
Image, and then click Next.
- On the Create Administrative Image page, in the
Select Autodesk Installer (MSI) File box, enter the path to c3d.msi, the
MSI file you use as the basis for your administrative image. This file is found
on your product media, in \BIN\Installer.
- In the Administrative Image
Location box, enter an existing shared network location where you want to create
an administrative image, or click Browse to navigate to a location. Users install
Autodesk Civil 3D from this location.
- Select the Apply a Patch (Service Pack)
to This Image option.
- In the Select Patch box, enter the path to the patch
location (the location you entered in step 2, including the extension .msp).
You can also Browse to locate the MSP file.
- Click Next, and follow the instructions
in the Deployment wizard to complete the deployment of this service pack.
apply Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Service Pack 2 to an existing Autodesk Civil 3D 2007
administrative image without any previous service packs applied
Before applying this Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Service Pack 2 to the existing Autodesk
Civil 3D 2007 administrative image, make sure that all client machines have already
been updated with the Service Pack 2.
: You cannot apply this Autodesk
Civil 3D 2007 Service Pack to an existing administrative image that already
has Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 1A applied to it. In order to have an administrative
image with Service Pack 2 applied to it you must create a new administrative
image and apply Service Pack 2 to it. Service Pack 2 contains all the fixes
that have been released to date for Civil 3D 2007.
- From the Autodesk Product Support website, download C3D2007_SP2.exe
to your local computer.
- On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the
following information, and then click OK.
