Thank you for downloading Autodesk® Revit® MEP 2012 Update 2.

This readme contains the latest information regarding the installation and use of this update. It is strongly recommended that you read this entire document before you apply the update to your licensed copy of Autodesk® Revit® MEP 2012, either as a standalone product or as part of a product suite. Such as: Autodesk® Building Design Suite 2012 Ultimate, Autodesk® Building Design Suite 2012 Premium or AutoCAD® Revit® MEP Suite 2012 software. For reference, you should save this readme to your hard drive or print a copy.

When applying this update while running Autodesk Revit MEP 2012, it is recommended that you do not click the "Automatically close applications and attempt to restart them after setup is complete" option. Instead, before you install this update, close Autodesk Revit MEP 2012 manually.

Before You Begin

As you prepare to install this update, keep the following in mind:

Administrative Privileges

During installation, you may be prompted for the original installation media or a network image. In order to apply this update, you must have administrative privileges to install and uninstall products.

Product media

Under some circumstances, you may be asked to provide the original installation source. If you installed Autodesk Revit MEP 2012 from the DVD or USB, you will be asked to insert the disk or USB during installation of the update. Please have the disk or USB available before starting.

If you downloaded and installed Autodesk Revit MEP 2012 from the web and later deleted the extracted files (Installed by default to Program Files\Autodesk Revit MEP 2012\Download), the update will not be able to continue. In that case, you should follow the below procedure:

  1. Obtain the Web download file and save it to your computer.
  2. Double click the download file and allow it to extract its files, noting where they are being saved.
  3. When the Autodesk Revit Installer screen appears, click "Cancel".
  4. Continue with update installation as described in the Installation Instructions.

Backup Custom Files

Back up all customized files such as Revit.ini before starting.

Updating Content

Cabinet files containing updated content are posted online with this patch. You may use these cabinet files to manually update content posted to a shared location.

Network Deployment

Special command line switches are available for administrators. The full list can be obtained by running the update with the /? Switch.

/q - Suppresses the completion message after this update is applied. This is useful if you use a script or batch file to apply this update to multiple computers.

/e - Extracts the MSP file from the update executable.

Apply This Update to a Stand-Alone Installation

Follow these instructions to install this update on a single computer.

  1. Download the update and save it to any folder.
  2. Ensure the original product installation media is available.
  3. Find the folder where you saved the update and double-click the executable (EXE) file.
  4. When the installation is completed, the following message will be displayed: "The Update Release was successfully installed and Autodesk Revit MEP 2012 has been updated."

Apply This Update to a Deployment Installation with Shared Content

Follow these instructions to install this update on a single computer.

  1. Download the update and save it to any folder.
  2. Ensure the original product installation media is available.
  3. To update local content and program files: Find the folder where you saved the update and double-click the executable (EXE) file.
  4. To update shared content: Click Run on the Start menu (Windows). From the Program directory of the installed product, enter following information and click OK.
  5. When the installation is completed, the following message will be displayed: "The Update Release was successfully installed and Autodesk Revit MEP 2012 has been updated."

Uninstall This Update

Note: This update cannot be uninstalled to revert Autodesk Revit MEP 2012 to its pre-update state. If you need to remove the update, please uninstall Autodesk Revit MEP 2012 and then reinstall it.

What You Should Know When Updating Autodesk Revit MEP 2012 Through LiveUpdate

This update may be applied through the Live Update system. The Autodesk Revit installer allows you to download and include the update with an install of the original version of Autodesk Revit MEP 2012. Also, InfoCenter, within Autodesk Revit MEP 2012, allows you to apply the update. Note that applying the update through either of these methods will not apply any content updates. To apply the content updates you will need to download the update and run it separately. If you have already applied the update through Live Update, you may download and run the update again.

Note: If Autodesk Revit MEP 2012 is not closed during the install of Update Release 2 it is required that you restart your PC to ensure that the update has been installed properly.
