The following table outlines one way of editing. You may perform the steps in a different order, or you may not even need to use all the steps in your project.

Step: Refer to:
1. Splice video and audio clips together to create a rough approximation of the final project. About Editing to the Timeline.
2. Add dissolves and wipes to the clips. About Dissolves and Wipes.
3. Refine the content of the clips by trimming frames. About Trimming.
4. Adjust the playback rate of clips, reverse playback, or freeze frames. About Timewarps.
5. Edit to additional tracks or layers on the timeline to lay the foundation for compositing or audio mixing. About Vertical Editing.
6. Create assorted effects such as composites, colour corrections and wipes. About Soft Effects.
7. Create a final audio mix. About Working with Audio.
