New Capture and Output Timings for AJA Kona 3G
You can now fully use the 3G feature of the AJA Kona 3G to input or output material using 3G connections to 3G SDI-capable
devices, replacing the need for dual-SDI connections. This include stereo capture from an HDCAM SR.
Support for the AJA Kona 3G is expanded to include the following:
4:2:2 timings over 3G:
- 1080/50P
- 1080/59P
- 1080/60P
NoteIt is still possible to capture and output 1080 50P/59P/60P material using the traditionnal 4:2:2 Dual SDI connections; select
the non-3G timings when entering the output clip module.
2K 4:4:4 timings over 3G:
- 2048 x 1080/23.98P
- 2048 x 1080/24P
- 2048 x 1080/25P
- 2048 x 1080/23.98PsF
- 2048 x 1080/24PsF
- 2048 x 1080/25PsF
TipProper playback of 1080/50P/59P/60P clips requires Smoke to use a matching sync to keep the audio synchronized and ensure no frames are dropped. Since there is no 1080/50P/59P/60P
sync generator, you need to use a 720/50P/59P/60P sync to genlock the Player; to see the full 1920x1080 frame in your Broadcast
Monitor, enable Scale to Fit Monitor in the Broadcast Preferences.
Updates to Input Clip and Output Clip Menus
The support for the 3G connectivity updates some of the options available in the Engineering menu of the Input Clip and Output
Clip menus.
- Device Name box
-
The Device Name box now differentiates between a 3G and a non-3G capable VTR.
- Input and Output Connection boxes
-
These boxes determine the connection by which the video signal is transferred. This box is automatically set to reflect the
selected VTR.
- In Serial 1 3G / Out serial 1 3G: The video signal is transferred through one SDI 3G link. This is the only available option
when you use a 3G VTR. The VTR Status field indicates any conversion that might happen because of the sampling used, 4:2:2
(conversion YCbCr <-> RGB) or 4:4:4 (no conversion RGB <-> RGB).
- In serial Dual 444 / Out serial Dual 444: The video signal is transferred through dual SDI links; one video field is sent
through one SDI cable, the other field through the other cable.
- In Serial 1 4:2:2 / Out serial 422: Traditional VTR, single-SDI connection.
NoteThere is no audio monitoring available during capture of 1080/50P, 1080/59P, and 1080/60P material.
