administrative privileges to be able to install Mechanical Desktop 2007 Service
Pack 2 on Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional or Windows XP
Home.
Service Pack 2 can be
installed if Service Pack 1 is already installed on non-Vista machines.
Microsoft Windows Vista users should see the NOTE below
Information for Windows
For Windows Vista users, Service
Pack 2 must be installed after installation of the product in order for it to
run.
NOTE: Due to a limitation in Service
Pack 1, Service Pack 2 cannot be installed on Windows Vista if Service Pack 1 is
already installed. To install Service Pack 2, first uninstall and reinstall
Mechanical Desktop 2007 and then apply Service Pack 2 (without installing
Service Pack 1).
·
When you launch of
Mechanical Desktop 2007, you may see the Program Compatibility Assistant from
Microsoft stating that there is a known compatibility issue with Windows Vista.
You can safely click the Run Program option to run the product. It is also safe
to click the "Do not show this message again" option.
·
When applying this
service pack while running Mechanical Desktop 2007, we do NOT recommended that

·
The default video
driver provided with Windows Vista will not provide acceptable performance and
functionality for 3D visualization features in AutoCAD. For optimal 3D
visualization functionality you will need to install a video driver provided by
your graphics card vendor and enable Hardware Acceleration in AutoCAD. If no
vendor driver is installed, it is not recommended that you enable Hardware
Acceleration as performance will be less than optimal. To see if your video
driver is a vendor driver, do the following:
NOTE: 3D Visualization performance will
be slower on Windows Vista than on Windows XP.
·
For optimal
performance when using 3D visualization features, please apply the latest
Certified Hardware XML Database from http://www.autodesk.com/autocad-graphicscardupdate.
For a complete list of certified, supported, and non-supported graphics hardware
for 3D display features, please visit http://www.autodesk.com/autocad-graphicscard.
·
For i-drop to
operate properly on a system running Windows Vista, the user should be set to
Run as Administrator.
·
Due to Windows Vista
restrictions, all sample files found in the AutoCAD Sample folder and subfolders
are read-only. Sheet Set Manager sample files can be opened in the Sheet Set
Manager but cannot be changed.
·
For Inventor Link to
work on Windows Vista, you need to run the application at least once as
administrator. You can right-click on the desktop shortcut and select “Run as
administrator”.
As you prepare to install the
service pack, keep these points in mind:
·
Custom files backup
—
Before you apply this service pack, be sure to back up all custom CUI, MNR, and
MNL files.
·
Administrative
privileges — During installation,
you will be prompted for the original installation CD or network image. You must
have administrative permissions to install and uninstall products in order to
successfully apply service packs.
·
Network deployment
—
Administrators can deploy the service pack over the network using the Deployment
wizard.
·
Updated Certified
Hardware XML Database — For optimal
performance when using 3D visualization features, please apply the latest
Certified Hardware XML Database from http://www.autodesk.com/autocad-graphicscardupdate.
For a complete list of certified, supported, and non-supported graphics hardware
for 3D display features, please visit http://www.autodesk.com/autocad-graphicscard.
·
Service pack removal
—
Once this service pack is applied, it cannot be removed by running an automatic
uninstall program. The product must be uninstalled and reinstalled to undo the
service pack changes.
Two Microsoft®
Windows® command line switches are built into this service pack:
·
/e – Extracts the MSP
file from the service pack executable.
·
/q – Suppresses the
completion message after the service pack is applied. This is useful if you use
a script or batch file to apply the service pack to multiple computers.
Follow these instructions to
install a service pack on an individual computer.

Network Deployment
The following distribution methods
apply only to administrative images created with the Deployment Wizard. After
you complete these operations, any subsequent deployments of the product will
include the service pack updates.
The patch (service pack) file that
you download contains an MSP (Microsoft Patch) file, which you extract from the
executable file using the /e (extract) switch. For an example of the syntax, see
step 2, below.
1.
From the Autodesk
Product Support website, download the service pack EXE file to your local
computer.
2.
On the Windows Start
menu, click Run. Enter information using the following syntax and click OK.
<local_drive:>\<patch_name>.exe
/e <local_drive:>\< patch_name>.msp
3.
Start the Autodesk
Deployment Wizard.
4.
On the Welcome page,
select Create an Administrative Image and Click Next.
5.
On the Create
Administrative Image page, in the Select Autodesk Installer (MSI) File box,
enter the path to acad.msi, the MSI file that you use as the basis for
your administrative image. You can find this file on your product CD-ROM in
cdrom:\Bin\acadFeui .
6.
In the Administrative
Image Location box, specify the shared network location where you want to create
an administrative image, or click Browse to find a
location.
7.
In the Apply a Service
Pack box, enter the path for the patch (the location you entered in step 2,
including the file extension .msp). You can also browse to locate the MSP
file.
8.
Click Next.
9.
If you are using Group
Policy (GPO) for this deployment, select the "Group Policy Objects will be used
to distribute the deployment" option. Click Next.
10.
Follow the
instructions in the Deployment wizard to complete the service pack deployment.

3.
Start the Autodesk
Deployment Wizard.
4.
On the Welcome page,
select Modify an Administrative Image and Click Next.
5.
On the Modify
Administrative Image page, in the Select an MSI File list, select an Autodesk
installer MSI file from a shared network location that contains the
administrative image you want to modify.

In the Apply a Service
Pack box, enter the path to the patch (the location you entered in step 2,
including the file extension .msp). You can also browse to locate the MSP
file. Click Next.
7.
If you are using Group
Policy (GPO) for this deployment, select the "Group Policy Objects will be used
to distribute the deployment" option.
8.
Click Next.
9.
Follow the
instructions in the Deployment wizard to complete the service pack deployment.
If you added Service Pack 1 to
your deployment using Group Policy Objects, then you can add Service Pack 2 to
that deployment WITHOUT using Group Policy Objects by using the following
procedure:
1.
From the Autodesk
Product Support website, download the service pack EXE file to your local
computer.
2.
On the Windows Start
menu, click Run. Enter information using the following syntax and click OK.

5.
On the Create
Administrative Image page, in the Select Autodesk Installer (MSI) File box,

the MSI file that you use as the basis for your administrative image. You can
find this file on your product CD-ROM in cdrom:\Bin\acadFeui .
6.
In the Administrative
Image Location box, select an Autodesk installer MSI file from a shared network
location that contains the administrative image you want to modify.
7.
In the Apply a Service
Pack box, enter the path for the patch (the location you entered in step 2,

Select the Modify a
Deployment option and select the deployment from Step 6.

Follow the
instructions in the Deployment wizard to complete the service pack deployment.
If you added Service Pack 1 to
your deployment WITHOUT using Group Policy Objects, you cannot add Service Pack
2 to that deployment. Instead, install from the existing deployment and then add
SP2 using Live Update, or create a new deployment with only SP2 applied (without
applying SP1).
