AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Service Pack 1 Readme

In a continuing effort to provide high quality products, Autodesk has released the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Service Pack 1.

This Readme contains information regarding the installation and use of this Service Pack. It is strongly recommended that you read this entire document before you apply the Service Pack to your product. For your reference, you should save this Readme to your hard drive or print a copy.

Grading and Feature Lines

Using the Fit Curve command on a rectangular feature line no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Grading from a smoothed feature line no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Using the Join command on polylines that are connected end to end and in separate sites no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Using grip edits on a grading that has other gradings attached to its daylight line now responds correctly. Previously, when the start or end of the grading wasn't at the start or end of the feature line, it sometimes snapped to a corner.
An issue that caused a grading to be incomplete has been resolved. Previously, attempting to grade past the radius would not work in situations where the adjacent segments were not tangent.
Grading surfaces now update as expected when the source grading object is edited. Previously, the grading surface and the profile did not update if you edited the grading, even though the grading surface had the "Rebuild Automatic" setting turned on.
Grading to a surface no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Grading from a spline feature line now works as expected. However, with drawings created in a previous version of AutoCAD Civil 3D it may be necessary to recalculate the spline before you attempt to grade. To recalculate the spline, use the MOVE command to move the feature line with a displacement of 0.0,0.0,0.0.
When grading to the outside of a feature line, editing the grade-to-surface criteria to 5:1 has been resolved and no longer causes the program to become unresponsive.
Undoing a grading edit no longer causes an adjacent non-intersecting grading to be erased.
Daylight lines are now created correctly along the inside arc in a transition.
An issue with grip editing a grading that has other gradings attached to its daylight line has been resolved. Previously, the daylight line would disappear and the program would close unexpectedly.
An issue with an elevation point on a transition creating an incorrect slope has been resolved. Previously, the slope at the elevation point was steeper than the gradings on either side.
You cannot use the Join command to connect feature lines from different sites. Previously, attempting this would cause the program to close unexpectedly. A message is now displayed that the survey figure does not connect and cannot be joined.
A feature line crossing a grading no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.

Labels

To select a parcel segment label, you can click the label. Previously you had to use CTRL-Click to select parcel segment labels.
Station elevation profile view labels now show station equation values. Previously, profile view labels only displayed raw station values.
Arc labels no longer report a negative value for external tangents when the delta angle is greater than 180 degrees.
Labels now retain their original dragged positions when you open a drawing in earlier versions of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Profile grade break labels in drawings created in a previous release now retain their overrides when using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008.
General labels are now created on the specified layer.
Delta angles are now labeled with the correct value. Previously, only half the value of the delta angle was displayed in the label.
Match Line labels now display sheet numbers correctly when a Sheet set file (.DST) is not in its original location.
An issue with alignment geometry point label station numbers has been resolved. The correct values are now displayed.
An issue with the Dragged State Components Display control in the Dragged State Tab (Label Style Composer dialog box) has been resolved. Previously, when set to As Composed, when you dragged a label from its insertion point, the leader would move but the label remained in its original location.

Parcels

Parcel lot line labels and feature line labels now report the correct external tangent value. Lot line and feature line labels no longer report a negative value for external tangents when the delta angle is greater than 180 degrees.
Parcel curve tables now report the correct value for external tangents.
Using the Recover command on drawings with multiple sites that contain large numbers of parcels now returns the expected results.
Using the RemoveAlignmentsFromSite command no longer corrupts alignment and profile data.
Using the Slide Angle - Create and Slide Direction - Create options to divide parcels no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
An issue with using the Offset command on a parcel face has been resolved. Previously, there were situations where the offset did not work if the adjacent segments were not tangent.

Profiles and Profile Views

In the Profile View wizard, selecting a different alignment on the General page correctly updates the Data Bands page. Previously, if you changed the alignment on the General page, the Data Band properties did not update and you would have incorrect data when you created the profile view.
Moving an alignment to another site no longer causes the profiles to disappear.
The program no longer closes unexpectedly when you enter a value in the Profile Layout Parameters and then click the Expand button.
When using the Create Profile by Layout command, you can now change the curve settings and then continue to create the profile.
An issue with the Import Band Set control in the Bands Tab of the Profile View Properties dialog box has been resolved. Previously, the band set referred to the original alignment instead of the alignment for the current profile view.
If the split profile option is specified, but is not necessary because the profile view does not contain multiple profiles, the main style is applied to draw the profile view.
Profile and section view labels now display accurate horizontal and vertical scale factor values.
In the Profile View Properties dialog box, on the Bands tab, the Profile1 and Profile2 fields for Sectional data bands are now enabled to allow you to change the profile to read another surface.
When using the Profile Station Elevation transparent command with the Create Profile by Layout command, you can now input a station entry of 0.0000.

Pipes

Structures are now labeled in the profile view. Previously, only the pipes were labeled.
An option has been added so that you can select 'null structure' when creating a network from a polyline.
An issue with pipe tables not updating when edits were made to structure names has been resolved.
The program no longer closes unexpectedly if you delete the last pipe or structure listed in Prospector.
An issue with changing pipe styles using the Pipe Properties has been resolved. Previously, if you selected a part size that was unavailable, no message was sent to the Event Viewer and an incorrect size was selected. If you select a pipe size that does not exist in the catalog, the Event Viewer alerts you that the pipe size is being changed to the closest size available.
Pipe and structure labels in profile view now correctly display expression calculation values.
An issue with the migration of pipe network labels has been resolved. Previously, if there was a network with a single labeled pipe, the label would not appear when the drawing was opened in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
An issue with invalid pipe structures has been resolved. Previously, a drawing with invalid structures would not display structure labels, and structure labels successfully created in plan view would not display in profile view. AeccNetwork.dbx is included with this service pack.
The Export to LandXML command now correctly exports pipe networks with their alignment data. Previously, the absence of this associated alignment data resulted in pipes and structures being drawn incorrectly in profile view, and alignment stations were displayed as starting at station 0+0.
The values for user defined expressions now appear correctly in profile view labels. Previously, the values displayed as question marks.
There is improved performance when working with Pipe Networks in Prospector.
An issue with deleting parts in the Pipe Network vista has been resolved. Previously, if you opened the Pipe Network vista from the Network Layout Tools dialog box and deleted multiple parts, the program closed unexpectedly when the vista was closed. Deleting parts from the vista while in layout mode is now no longer an option. When you right-click a part in the Pipes Network vista and select delete, the following message is displayed, "While in layout mode you must use the delete button on the network editing toolbar to erase parts." Use this alternative method to delete parts.
An issue with exporting pipe networks to LandXML has been resolved. Previously, if two networks contained parts with identical names, they would not export.
Pipes and structures that are added to an existing referenced network now display the correct style in the referenced drawing.
Alignments created from a network now display the pipe network name. Previously, the pipe network name displayed as question marks (???).
Invalid profiles cannot be added to structures. Previously, if you added an invalid profile and then tried to delete it, the program would close unexpectedly.

Points

In the item list view, using the shortcut menu to lock and unlock points no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Transferring points now returns the expected results. Previously, transferring large numbers of points returned an incomplete point file and caused the program to become unresponsive.
Using circular grips to move point labels no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Using grip edits on points in a point group that is on a locked layer no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly. As a best practice, it is recommended that all point groups be on layer 0.
Dragging a point label off a point marker that has a scale applied to it now returns the expected results.
Point style options have been updated and now include the category "Leader Stops At Marker." This option allows you to set the leader to extend from either the center or the outer edge of the marker.
When you import points with description keys, the points are now inserted on the correct layer. Previously, all points were inserted on Layer 0.
Point elevations in Xdrefs are now correctly used for surface data. The elevations are no longer controlled by the point group display order.

Cross Section Views

Cross sections created by referencing a surface through an Xref are now functioning properly. Previously, in the Sample Line Group, deleting a sampled source did not remove the sections from the group.
Sections created from an Xref now contain the correct data in the Band settings and elevations.
The Import Band Set command now refers to the sample line for the current section view. Previously, the Import Band Set command would refer to the original sample line.
Section view major grid labels created in the previous version of AutoCAD Civil 3D now contain the correct data when opened in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008.

Survey

Offset figures now display the correct elevations.
An issue with figure prefixes not matching figure names has been resolved. Previously, if you had duplicate named sets of figures using the same prefix layer, only one figure would be assigned the correct layer. The other figures would be assigned to layer 0.
Survey network names and survey group names are limited to 128 characters.
The program no longer closes unexpectedly when a traverse is deleted while the Traverse Editor is open or hidden.
In the Survey Command window, the commands from the View menu now work as expected.
Importing and exporting field book files multiple times no longer corrupts the backsight observation.
Using the Figures - C3 curve command now derives elevations from the second point.
Re-opening a drawing with survey data that has been edited no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Editing points in the Survey Point Editor no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
The program no longer closes unexpectedly when you use the item list view to attempt to make changes to a figure that is in the drawing.
Using the Import Survey LandXML command no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Modifying a figure using the angle option no longer causes the program to become unresponsive.
Changing the status of a figure breakline or lot line in the list view or in the figure properties no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
When you export a field book the bearing angle types are no longer converted to radians.
The multi-select option now works when adding points to survey point groups.
Using the Least Squares Analysis command no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
The Flatten Figure to Elevation and Exaggerate Figure Elevations by Scale Factor options on the Geometry tab of the Figure Styles dialog box now return the expected results.
When you use the Modify Figure > Begin New Figure command, the figure is now drawn in the correct direction. Previously, the bearing prompt was using an offset from the x axis instead of from the y axis.
An issue with running ActiveX scripts using the survey API has been resolved. Previously, the script was interrupted by a blank error dialog box. The dialog contained no error message but contained an OK button which when clicked would result in the resumption of the script. The ActiveX scripts now work as expected.
LandXML Control Point coordinates are now accepted as the first occupied point. Previously, performing a traverse analysis with the Traverse Analysis dialog box resulted in an error message that the occupied point did not have known coordinates.
Importing LandXML data no longer creates multiple instances of the same point number.

Surfaces

Moving a grading object that has the 'Automatic Surface Creation' option selected, and then using the Create Detached Surface command to create a detached surface from that grading object no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Using the Water Drop command no longer causes the program to become unresponsive or close unexpectedly.
Creating a Surface Range volume analysis on the Analysis tab of the Surface Properties dialog box now returns the expected results.
An issue was resolved for text objects with different alignment properties. Previously, in some situations, when these text objects were added to a Surface Definition, the surface did not build correctly.
An issue with importing DEM extents on a TIN surface that was created using a DEM as source data has been resolved. Previously, the polyline did not line up with the DEM.
When defining a User Defined Contour analysis on the Analysis tab of the Surface Properties dialog box, editing the elevation of the contour you have selected to 0 no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Previously, when adding Drawing Objects > Text to a surface definition, you could only use MTEXT objects. AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 now also reads TEXT and DTEXT objects.
Contour line labels now orient to international standards as expected.
3D exaggeration settings for surfaces as defined in the surface style are now applied consistently with other objects. Previously, if you exaggerated the elevations for surfaces to the same factor as points, for example, they would not appear at the same elevation when examined in a three-dimensional view.
Erasing a surface or rebuilding a surface no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.

Tables

Creating an entity segment table using the Multiple Selection option displays the expected results. Previously, when you saved and closed the drawing the table data was lost.
Selecting a split table now selects all split tables in the drawing. When you select a split table, right-click, and then select the Split Table command, all split tables in the drawing are combined as expected.
Issues with table-related commands have been resolved. Previously, the EditParceltagNumbers command, the RemoveTableSelSetByLStyle command, and the "Pick On Screen" option in the Parcel Line/Curve table creation dialog box did not function as expected.
An issue with changing the Starting Number in the Renumber Tags dialog box has been resolved.
Label Properties now display as expected in the Object Property Manager when using Windows 2000.

Who Should Install This Service Pack?

This Service Pack, C3D2008_SP1.exe, is for all versions of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 running on English-language and non-English-language operating systems.

Important: You cannot run an automatic uninstall to remove this Service Pack.

General Installation Information

Before applying this service pack, make sure that any customizations made to the user profile (such as, customizations made to the support file search paths, print file customizations, printer support file paths, redirections, custom template settings, and so on) are exported to a secure location, then imported and reapplied after the service pack has been successfully installed.
It is recommended that you create a backup of all custom CUI (menu customization) files before installing the service pack. These files are located in your \Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Autodesk\C3D 2008\enu\Support folder.
During the installation of this update, you may be prompted for the original installation media (CDs or DVD) or network image.
The following benign error message may be displayed when installing this Service Pack on non-English language operating systems, or when the English product is installed on a non-English locale:
Resource Manager Error: Cannot load resource only DLL: C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008\AecResMgr50enu.dll

This error message may also be displayed when running the AutoCAD Civil 3D Content Browser feature on certain non-English language operating systems. If you see this error message, simply click OK and proceed with Service Pack installation or with using the Content Browser.

Important: You cannot run an automatic uninstall to remove this service pack. To restore your version of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 to its pre-service pack state, uninstall AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 and reinstall it.

Windows Command Line Switches

The Windows command line switches built into this service pack are as follows:

/e - Extracts the MSP file from the service pack executable.
/p - Extracts a patch list from the service pack executable.
/q - Suppresses the completion message after the service pack is applied. This is useful if you use a script or batch file to apply the service pack to multiple computers.

Instructions about how to use these command line switches are included in the procedures that follow.

Applying this Service Pack to a Stand-alone Installation

Download C3D2008_SP1.exe and save it to any folder.
Insert your AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 media into your media drive.
Navigate to the folder where you saved the service pack.
Double-click the executable file for the service pack to install it.

Applying this Service Pack Through Your Local Network Using a Patch List

Use this procedure if you want to use Communication Center to apply this service pack through your local network.

To apply this service pack through Communication Center using local patch list functionality

From the Autodesk Product Support website, download <C3D2008_SP1.exe> and <AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Service Pack 1 Readme.htm> to a local server.
NOTE: Make sure that all users who need to apply the service pack have access to this server.
On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following information, and then click OK:

<local server name>\<patch name> /p <patch list location name>\<patch list name>

For example:

NOTE: If a patch list file already exists in this location, the new patch list information is added to the end of that file. The original file is not overwritten.

Open the patch list file. If there is more than one patch list, the lists are separated by asterisks (*****).
Change the fifth line in step 3, PatchFileLocation, to one of the following:
- If you want to make the service pack available from a file server, enter:
  PatchFileLocation=\\\\<your_server_name>\\<your_share_name>\\<subfolders> \\<patch_name>.exe
- If you want to make the service pack available from an FTP server, enter:

Save and close the patch list file.
Insert the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 media into your local computer's media drive.
On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following:
<your_CD-ROM drive>:\BIN\Installer\Support\CADManagerControl
Double-click CMControl.exe.
In the CAD Manager utility, in the product list, select AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008, and then click OK.
In the CAD Manager utility, on the Communication Center tab, do the following:
- In the Live Update Configuration list, select Enable Using Local Patch List.
- In the Local Patch List Location box, enter the patch list file location (the UNC network path).
- Click Apply to save these settings to your own system.
At the bottom of the CAD Manager utility, in the drop-down list, select Create .reg Registry File. Then click OK.
In the Save As dialog box, save the file to your system. Make note of this location.
The registry file must be run at each workstation so the service pack can be applied. Distribute the registry file to each user (workstation). Each user should save the file locally and double-click the file from Windows Explorer to run it.
At each workstation, the service pack must then be applied using the Communication Center.

NOTE: Once the registry changes have been applied to the client, the Communication Center in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 will alert the users with a "Maintenance Update Available" notice. When the user clicks on the notice, a page will be displayed that says "Autodesk Live Update." This page contains instructions, a description of the patch, and an "Update" button that will start the patch download and install.

Applying this Service Pack to an AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Network Administrative Image

The following two methods of distributing AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Service Pack 1 apply only to administrative images created with the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Network Installation wizard. After you complete these procedures, any new deployments of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 will have the service pack applied to them automatically.

NOTE: In both of the following procedures, the service pack file that you download contains an MSP (Microsoft Patch) file. You must extract that file from the executable file. To extract the MSP file from the executable, use the /e ("extract") switch.

To add AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Service Pack 1 to a new AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 administrative image

From the Autodesk Product Support website, download <C3D2008_SP1.exe> to your local computer.
On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following information, and then click OK.
<local drive>:\<patch name>\ /e <local drive>:\<patch name.msp>
From the installation media, select Create Deployment.
Select the location of your deployment and provide a name, then click Next.
Select the products you would like to install, then click Next.
On the Configure page, select the Configure button to customize the deployment.
Continue with the customizations of the deployment. On the Include Service Packs page, use the ellipses button to browse to the location of the MSP file that was downloaded and extracted from the executable file.
Select the merge installation of the service pack option. Merging the installation installs both during the product installation.

NOTE: Do not select the option to append the administrative image as this method will not include the service pack in the installation.

Complete the customizations and select Configuration Complete, then select Create Deployment.

To apply AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Service Pack 1 to an existing AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 administrative image

NOTE: Before applying this AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Service Pack 1 to the existing AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 administrative image, make sure that all client machines have already been updated with the Service Pack 1.

From the Autodesk Product Support website, download C3D2008_SP1.exe to your local computer.
On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following information, and then click OK.
<local drive>:\<patch name>\ /e <local drive>:\<patch name.msp>
On the computer where you created the original AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 deployment there is a "modify <deployment name>" shortcut. Double-click this shortcut.
In the Install framework, you can select a new name or location for the deployment.
In the Begin Deployment page, specify a new name or leave the name as-is.
Review and make any changes required in the Review - configure - create deployment page.
Select Configure, then make any appropriate changes in the Include Service Packs page, then use the ellipses button to browse to the location of the MSP file that was downloaded and extracted from the executable file. You must select the "Merge the service packs into the administrative image MSI file" method of including the service pack.
Complete the customizations and select Configuration Complete, then select Create Deployment. Now any new deployments of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 will have the service pack applied to them automatically.
