Using HTML Help on Linux Systems
On Linux, support for the compiled HTML Help format relies on the MainWin environment.
Opening Help outside of Softimage
To display the HTML Help files without running Softimage, follow these steps:
1. In a terminal or shell window, source the .xsi_7.5 file. By default, this file is located where the Softimage program files are installed. For example,
source /usr/Softimage/Softimage_7.5/.xsi_7.5
2. Run hh specifying the CHM file you want to open. You can find the CHM files in the XSI and XSISDK subfolders of the Doc directory where the Softimage program files are installed. For example:
hh $XSI_HOME/Doc/en/XSI/xsidocs.chm
Setting Up for Printing Help Topics
To print topics from HTML Help, you must first add printers to your MainWin environment. The printers must already be set up for your Linux computer before you can select them for use with MainWin.
1. In a terminal or shell window, source the .xsi_7.5 file. By default, this file is located where the Softimage program files are installed. For example,
source /usr/Softimage/Softimage_7.5/.xsi_7.5
2. Run the MainWin Control Panel:
mwcontrol
3. Double-click Printers. The Printers window opens, showing all previously configured printers.
4. Double-click Add New Printer and follow the instructions in the wizard.
Setting Internet Options to Enable External Links
To enable external topic links from HTML Help, you must configure your Internet connection in your MainWin environment. You can use the MainWin Control Panel to configure the Internet Options.
1. Open a terminal or shell window.
2. Source the Softimage environment script:
source ~/.xsi_7.5
3. Run the MainWin Control Panel:
mwcontrol
4. Double-click on the Internet Options icon. The Internet Properties dialog box opens.
5. Setup your Internet connection as required (to use a proxy server for example). For information about specific options, click ? and then click on the option.
