To rendermap an object, all you have to do is apply a RenderMap property to the object, set the parameters, and generate the maps. Rendermap parameters fall into two categories: those that apply to all types of maps and those that are specific to particular maps.
1. Select a polygon mesh, polygon cluster, NURBS surface, assembled surface, hierarchy, or group for which you want to generate a rendermap.
2. From the Render toolbar, choose Get > Property > Render Map.
The RenderMap property is applied to the selected object(s) and the RenderMap property editor opens.
3. On the Basic tab, set the Sampling to Entire Surface (Rendermap).
4. Do both of the following:
- Choose and configure the maps that you wish to generate, as described in Choosing and Configuring Maps to Generate.
- Once you’ve configured your maps, set the rest of the RenderMap options (those that affect all maps), as described in Setting General RenderMap Options (All Map Types).
5. After you’ve finished setting the options, click the Regenerate Maps button at the top of any tab to generate all active maps.
6. Repeat as necessary.
Locating RenderMap Properties in the Explorer
Once you apply a rendermap property to an object, you can always access it from the explorer, where it’s available directly under the object’s node.
