Pass Rendering Options Overview
The pass options allow you to modify basic rendering-related settings for each pass in your scene. Most of these options are described in this section, though some are described elsewhere (but don’t worry, we’ll tell you where if that is the case). However, you can always find descriptions for all of the pass options in the Render Pass Property Editor [Properties Reference].
Keep in mind that many of the pass options are pulled from those defined at the scene level first. In order to set them at the pass level, you must specify that you wish to override the scene render options. You can easily identify these options because they are either set to Use Scene Render Options, or they provide a toggle to Override Scene Render Options. For more information, see Scene Rendering Options.
Setting render options for a pass usually involves some or all of the following:
• Choosing the pass renderer. See Setting the Pass Renderer.
• Setting the file names of the pass’ render channels. See Setting Pass Output Paths and File Names.
• Choosing the frames that you want to render. See Setting Pass Frames.
• Setting the pass camera. See Controlling the Active Camera for the Render Pass [Rendering].
• Setting the output format for rendered frames. See Setting the Pass Output Resolution.
• Setting pass motion blur options. See Pass Motion Blur Settings [Lights and Cameras].
• Configuring field-rendering options. See Setting Pass Field Rendering Options.
• Defining a subregion or selection to render. See Set Pass Crop From Region and Selection options [Properties Reference].
• Render a gamma corrected pass using the Color Management display preference [Preference Reference].
• If desired, outputting a movie file of the pass in addition to the rendered frames. See Creating Movie Files (Windows Only)
• Setting pass-level output options for .mi file archives. See Setting Pass .MI Archive Options.
• Applying Shaders to the pass. See Applying Shaders to Partitions.
