This Readme contains the latest information regarding the installation and use of this service pack. It is strongly recommended that you read this entire document before you apply the service pack to your product. For your reference, you should save this Readme to your hard drive or print a copy.

Who Should Install the Service Pack?
Service Pack 3 is for the following Autodesk products running on all supported operating systems and languages. Be sure to install the correct service pack for your software.

Information for Windows Vista Users
When applying this service pack while running AutoCAD Electrical, it is recommended that you do not click the "Automatically close applications and attempt to restart them after setup is complete" option. Instead, close AutoCAD Electrical manually before completing the installation of the service pack.
Primary Issues Resolved by the Service Pack
Note: AutoCAD Electrical 2009 Service Pack 3 includes the AutoCAD Electrical 2009 Service Pack 2 plus the AutoCAD 2009 Update 3. For issues resolved by the AutoCAD Electrical 2009 Service Pack 2, the AutoCAD 2009 Update 2 or the AutoCAD 2009 Update 3, please see the appropriate service pack readme located on the Autodesk support web site
Cross-referencing
- Cross-reference does not display leading zero's on Referenced Components in other Drawings.
Electrical Audit
- Electrical audit does not report the missing wire numbers in the active project.
- Electrical audit reports invalid 'Pin Exception' errors when multiple catalog items are defined on a component.
Insert/Edit Components/Footprints
- Insert footprint (schematic list) command with Named Location option, is not listing components that carry the drawing default location.
- Back button in the Icon Menu does not work after going to another custom menu.
- A hyphen '-' prefix on a component tag may be lost with certain Combined Tag options.
- A Multiple Catalog assignment change for a panel footprint does not update a related schematic component if both are on the same drawing.
- Copy circuit does not work properly if the copied circuit contains block names with double byte characters.
- Import from spreadsheet fails to update revised item numbers for a component's multiple catalog assignments.
- Panel footprint insert could incorrectly default to the DESC1-3 values for a similar, previously inserted footprint instead of checking and using existing DESC1-3 values defined on the footprint library symbol itself.
Pin Lists
- Pin List from secondary catalog database defined for the active project was being ignored.
Project Database Service
- Project Database Service can become unstable under certain conditions.
Reports
- Surfing on the Schematic BOM report links to only the first component tag instead of all component tags listed in the picked cell of the report table.
- Using an optional secondary catalog lookup database for the active project and running multiple BOM reports can lead to missing description information in the displayed report.
- Certain fields like MOUNT, GROUP are not listed when Panel BOM report is saved in spreadsheet format.
Symbol Builder
- An edited WDBLKNAM attribute value is not being saved to the new created panel footprint.
- Changing the height of TERMnn attribute also changes its insertion point.
Terminals
- Using Terminal Strip Editor, the graphical terminal strip layout for new multi level terminals cannot be inserted if the active drawing has not yet been added to the active project.
- Changing destination (internal/external) for terminals using the Terminal Strip Editor can interfere with existing wire sequencing defined on the terminal's wire network.
- New association values are not assigned to terminals when using the 'Copy To...' option on a drawing even when you select 'Yes' to assign new associations.
- Terminal attributes are not prefilled with values defined in the TEXTVALUE field of the selected catalog number.
- The Insert Saved Circuit and Copy Circuit commands are failing to fully maintain any included multilevel terminal associations.
Title Block
- Title Block Update command updates only the first title block instance found on a drawing, even if multiple title block instances have been inserted on different layouts of the same drawing.
- The drawing list report does not support multiple title block instances that carry the WD_TB attribute.
Wires
- Deleting wire numbers for vertical terminal that trigger a wire number change through them removes all wire numbers in the terminal's connected circuits.
- The Panel Footprint Wire Annotation command does not display any report for the active project.
- A component's location value is not shown when using the "%5" replaceable parameter in the wire annotation for terminal footprints command.
General Installation Information
Before You Start
As you prepare to install the service pack, keep these points in mind:
- Custom files backup — Before you apply this service pack, be sure to back up all custom CUI, MNR, and MNL files.
- Administrative privileges — During installation, you will be prompted for the original installation disc or network image. You must have administrative permissions to install and uninstall products in order to successfully apply service packs.
- Network deployment — Administrators can deploy the service pack over the network using a Network Deployment. Please refer to the Applying This Service Pack to a Network Administrative Image section.
- Updated Certified Hardware XML Database — For optimal performance when using 3D visualization features, please apply the latest Certified Hardware XML Database from http://www.autodesk.com/autocad-graphicscardupdate. For a complete list of certified, supported, and non-supported graphics hardware for 3D display features, please visit http://www.autodesk.com/autocad-graphicscard.
About Windows Command Line Switches
Two Microsoft® Windows® command line switches are built into this service pack:
- /e – Extracts the MSP file from the service pack executable. Instructions about how to use the /e command line switch are included in the procedures below.
- /q – Suppresses the completion message after the service pack is applied. This is useful if you use a script or batch file to apply the service pack to multiple computers.
Stand-Alone Installation Instructions
To update a stand-alone installation
- Download the service pack and save it to any folder.
- If required, insert the product media (for example, AutoCAD Electrical installation disc).
- Find the folder where you saved the service pack and double-click the executable (EXE) file.
Apply This Service Pack through a Local Network
You can use Communication Center to apply this service pack through your local network. Detailed instructions on how to set up patching through your local network are listed in the Communication Center tab of the CAD Manager Control Utility help.
Note: The CAD Manager Control Utility can be installed from the product installation media by selecting "Install Tools and Utilities" and by then selecting the Autodesk CAD Manager Tools.
Applying This Service Pack to a Network Administrative Image
The following distribution methods apply only to administrative images created with the Deployment Wizard. After you complete these procedures, subsequent deployments of your product will include the service pack updates.
In all cases, please "Append" this service pack to a deployment. The only time it is appropriate to "Merge" a service pack is if you intend to distribute the deployment through a group policy object.
The patch (service pack) file that you download contains an MSP (Microsoft Patch) file, which you extract from the executable file using the /e (extract) switch. For an example of the syntax, see step 2, below.
To add the service pack to a new administrative image
- From the Autodesk Product Support website, download the service pack EXE file to your local computer.
- On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter information using the following syntax and click OK.
<local_drive:>\<patch_name> /e <local_drive:>\< patch_name>.msp
- Insert the AutoCAD Electrical media and launch setup.exe.
- Select "Create Deployments," then click Next.
- On the "Begin Deployment" page, in the "Specify the Deployment Location" box, enter the shared network location where you would like to create an administrative image, or click "Browse" to find a location. Users install the product from this location.
- In the "Specify a Deployment Name" box, enter the name for your deployment.
- Continue through the Deployment Wizard, and Configure when allowed. On the "Include Service Packs" page, click "Browse" to browse to the service pack extracted in Step 2. Notice that the service pack has been added in the "Service Packs Included in this Deployment" box. Click Configuration Complete.
- Follow the instructions in the Deployment Wizard to complete the service pack deployment.
To apply the service pack to an existing administrative image
- From the Autodesk Product Support website, download the service pack EXE file to your local computer.
- On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following information and click OK.
<local_drive:>\<patch_name> /e <local_drive:>\< patch_name>.msp
- Browse to the location of the existing Administrative image.
- In the Tools folder, select the "Create and Modify a Deployment" shortcut.
- On the "Begin Deployment" page, you may change the name of the existing deployment in the "Specify the Deployment Name" box.
- On the "Begin Deployment page", do one of the following:
- Select "Create a new deployment using an existing deployment as a template". Specify a new deployment name.
- Select "Modify an existing deployment". Modify the existing deployment.
- Continue through the Deployment Wizard, and Configure when allowed. On the "Include Service Packs" page, click "Browse" to browse to the service pack extracted in Step 2. Notice that the service pack has been added in the "Service Packs Included in this Deployment" box. Click "Configuration Complete".
- Follow the instructions in the Deployment Wizard to complete the service pack deployment.
To Uninstall this Service pack
Note: This service pack cannot be uninstalled when the product is installed from a deployment (also called an administrative image) with a merged update.
Windows XP
- Insert the product media.
- On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
- In the control panel, click "Add or Remove Programs".
- In the Add or Remove Programs window, select the Show Updates option.
- Find the appropriate service pack in the list of programs and click Remove.
Windows Vista
- Insert the product media.
- On the Windows Start menu, click Control Panel.
- Click Programs.
- Click Programs and Features.
- In the Programs and Features window, in the left pane, click View Installed Updates.
- Find the appropriate service pack in the list of updates and click Uninstall.
