A Vector Underlay Layer consists of SketchBook Designer curves that are derived from the entities in an AutoCAD drawing (with the exception of dimensions, text, annotations, and solids).
When you create a Vector Underlay Layer, each AutoCAD layer on the layout is exported to a corresponding Vector Underlay Layer on the canvas and the entities are converted to SketchBook Designer curves.
When you make changes to the entities on the AutoCAD layer, you can update the Vector Underlay Layer on the canvas to reflect these changes. You can trace the resulting curves using Paint Layer snap features or you can copy them. You can also use them as fill boundaries.
You cannot edit Vector Underlay Layers in SketchBook Designer for AutoCAD; however, you can convert Vector Underlay Layers to Vector Layers, and then edit the Vector Layers in standalone SketchBook Designer.
A Paint Underlay Layer consist of a rasterized image of an AutoCAD drawing. The entities in each AutoCAD layer on the layout are plotted and the resulting image placed on a Paint Underlay Layer on the canvas.
When you make changes to the entities on the AutoCAD layer, you can update the Paint Underlay Layer on the canvas to reflect these changes.
You cannot edit Paint Underlay Layers; however, you can convert Paint Underlay Layers to Paint Layers and then paint on them.
